This Chinese-fusion wedding at Hedsor House in the Buckinghamshire countryside was a blend of cultural significance, quiet luxury and organic design. The day combined old-world charme with Japanese-inspired floral arrangements and elements of the couple’s Chinese heritage.

Norelle and Ray had a main vision, along with many smaller ‘side visions,’ and I loved bringing it all together for them.

If one wanted to describe the day and design, it would be something along the lines of old world and fairies, organic and Ikebana, English countryside charm infused with elements of Chinese culture, and of course, love and fashion.

We were so lucky to be able to go with plan A, which had us set up for the ceremony outside at Hedsor House — a well kept Buckinghamshire manor house venue. The outdoor garden ceremony tied in beautifully with the couple’s love of nature and natural materials. It was conducted by the bride’s closest friend, making many of us cry.

The dinner saw a 45-minute thank-you speech by the bride and groom to every single guest in the room. More happy tears, oh yes!

When I look at these dinner tables now, I can’t help but feeling that, whilst of course beautiful, they really just mirror the gentle, chic and lightheartedness of Norelle and Ray. Lilies were key for cultural significance, and so were gentle fonts, silky fabric drapes (fashion!), and classic drink and silverware details. What a joyful mixture of directions, main and side visions, old and new elements.

The dragon dance at the end of dinner was one of the many highlights that their day saw, leading everyone to the next stage of the evening — the party!

I just love it when I have the opportunity to incorporate and plan out elements of a culture that isn’t mine – it fills me with such curiosity, gratification and also pride. There aren’t many jobs in the world that will allow you to do such a thing.
